Entry 6 - Long time coming update
I haven't updated my game in a while, though it wasn't for lack of trying. There's a lot of endings and transitions in my personal life happening right now, as well as with many people that I know. As a result I have been grieving a lot and couldn't focus on work. In addition to this, my laptop received the blue screen of death over the weekend and I couldn't bring it in to get it fixed until Tuesday (last Monday was memorial day so everyone was closed). I was able to recover the majority of my most previous data and continue adding to Grimlore afterwards however.
Additionally, I have created the code for a new enemy and it is about 98% operational. I never fully coded him before because to me the task was too difficult for my coding abilities until now. Aside from that, I filled out the rest of each existing level with backgrounds, a night sky and mountains. All of these I created before my laptop hit me with that screen. He's not in level 1, but I'll probably put the enemy in level 2. It's a nod to Ghosts 'N' Goblins, much like the rest of this game's dark style is somewhat based off of. Finally I created the official level 1 music theme for the game. The previous one was a placeholder, since the original theme intended for it just didn't fit well with the pace of the game.
Aside from a few complicated debugs I have to do with Grimlore's main character, Tul, there isn't much more to do with the first level. The music is done I just have to edit it in Audacity, since the original got wiped after the blue screen of death. Other than that, I can soon start working on level 2. Too be honest, I can't wait to work on level 3, because I have some cool ideas for that.
Here's to the death of May. Good riddance, and to those who play, I hope you enjoy the update. Finally, Happy Birthday to Dana Roberts. May 31st, 1991. There's only a handful of people like you in the world.
